Het Mriya International Film Festival presenteert de Academy Award en BAFTA-genomineerde documentaire “20 Days in Mariupol”, die naast vele andere prijzen ook de publieksprijs op Sundance Film Festival in de wacht sleepte. In dit sterk staaltje documentair filmmaken zet Oekraïense filmmaker en journalist Mstyslav Chernov een nietsontzienend beeld neer van de Russische invasie van Oekraïene. Hij filmde de verwoesting van havenstad Marioepol gedurende de drie weken dat hij en zijn collega’s Evgeniy Maloletka en Vasilisa Stepanenko er gestationeerd waren. In de stijl van Matthew Heineman riskeert Chernov zijn leven om de waarheid vertellen over de vernietigingen aangericht door Rusland, waarbij burgers nooit ontzien werden. Alles, van woonhuizen tot kraamafdelingen van ziekenhuizen, werd een doelwit; zelfs massagraven konden het dodenaantal niet bijhouden. Een zware film, maar diep noodzakelijk; informatie via het nieuws is één ding, maar om zelf de levenloze lichamen van talloze slachtoffers te aanschouwen gaat een stap verder. Het bekijken van Chernovs’ film is daarmee een humanitaire plicht.

Mriya International Film Festival is een non-profit organisatie opgericht door een Oekraïense student van het RITCS. Mriya heeft de rechten verworven om “20 days in Mariupol” officieel te vertonen, en alle inkomsten uit de kaartverkoop zullen worden gedoneerd aan een humanitaire organisatie in Marioepol!

Mriya International Film Festival brings you the Oskar & BAFTA nominated movie, which among many other prizes won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival – “20 days in Mariupol”.

In a miraculous feat of documentary filmmaking, Ukrainian filmmaker and journalist Mstyslav Chernov creates an unforgiving time capsule of the invasion of Ukraine, filming the devastation of Mariupol over the three weeks he and his colleagues Evgeniy Maloletka and Vasilisa Stepanenko were stationed in the geographically crucial port city. In the style of various courageous Matthew Heineman films, Chernov risks his life to speak the truth about Russia’s shattering attacks on Ukrainian civilians when everything from residential buildings to maternity wards of hospitals were targeted and even mass graves couldn’t keep up with the death toll. It’s predictably a tough sit, but an unquestionably necessary one too—it’s one thing to have the information; entirely another to see lifeless bodies of all ages that fell victim to unspeakable evil. Watching Chernov’s film is a humanitarian duty.

Mriya International Film Festival is a non-profit organization founded by a Ukrainian student of RITCS. Mriya has earned the rights to officially screen “20 days in Mariupol” and all revenue generated by the sale of tickets will be donated to a partnering humanitarian organization in Mariupol!

20 jours à Mariupol.
Le Festival international de film “Mriya” vous présente le film nommé pour un Oskar et le BAFTA, qui a remporté, entre autres, le prix du public au Festival du film de Sundance – “20 jours à Mariupol”.

Dans un miraculeux exploit documentaire, le cinéaste et journaliste ukrainien Mstyslav Chernov crée une capsule temporelle impitoyable de l’invasion de l’Ukraine, en filmant la dévastation de Mariupol pendant les trois semaines où lui et ses collègues Evgeniy Maloletka et Vasilisa Stepanenko ont été stationnés dans cette ville portuaire géographiquement cruciale. Dans le style de plusieurs films courageux de Matthew Heineman, Chernov risque sa vie pour dire la vérité sur les attaques dévastatrices de la russie contre les civils ukrainiens, alors que tout, des immeubles résidentiels aux maternités des hôpitaux, était pris pour cible et que même les fosses communes ne parvenaient pas à contenir le nombre de morts. C’est une chose d’avoir l’information, c’en est une autre de voir des corps sans vie de tous âges qui ont été victimes d’un mal innommable. Regarder le film de Chernov est un devoir humanitaire.

Le festival international du film Mriya est une organisation non-profit fondée par une étudiante ukrainienne du RITCS. Mriya a obtenu les droits de projection officielle de “20 days in Mariupol” et toutes les recettes générées par la vente des billets seront reversées à une organisation humanitaire partenaire à Mariupol !
