De Palestijnse regisseur Raed Andoni zat op zijn 18e vast in de beruchte Moscobiya-gevangenis in West-Jeruzalem, waar sinds 1967 minstens 750.000 Palestijnse mannen zijn opgesloten en gemarteld. In zijn documentaire Ghost Hunting (2017) verzamelt hij een eclectische groep ex-gevangenen die bereid zijn de confrontatie met hun verleden aan te gaan door de verstikkende muren van hun voormalige gevangenis te reconstrueren.

Dag na dag geven bouwvakkers, een smid, een architect en een assistent-directeur vorm aan hun herinneringen – hoe ze overleefden, hoe ze het uithielden en hoe, zelfs in de donkerste momenten, humor en veerkracht hen menselijk hielden. De muren van hun cellen rijzen op, net als hun stemmen, die stilte en angst doorbreken.

Na de vertoning discussiëren we met Wadee Hanani, assistent-regisseur van Ghost Hunting, journalist Lama Ghosheh en activist Fadia Barghouti, die via Zoom meedoen. Alle drie hebben ze detentie aan den lijve ondervonden en zullen ze hun persoonlijke getuigenissen van veerkracht en verzet delen. De discussie wordt gemodereerd door psychologe Ama Kissi.

Film screening of Ghost Hunting by Raed Andoni, followed by a discussion.

Palestinian director Raed Andoni was jailed at 18 in the notorious Moscobiya prison in West Jerusalem, one of Israel’s many interrogation centers, where at least 750,000 Palestinian men have been imprisoned and tortured since 1967. In his documentary Ghost Hunting (2017), he assembles an eclectic group of ex-prisoners willing to confront their past by reconstructing the suffocating walls of their former prison.

Day after day, construction workers, a blacksmith, an architect, and an assistant director give shape to their memories – how they survived, how they endured, and how, even in the darkest moments, humor and resilience kept them human. As the walls of their cells rise, so do their voices, breaking through silence and fear.

Following the screening, we will be joined for a discussion with Wadee Hanani, assistant director of Ghost Hunting, along with journalist Lama Ghosheh and activist Fadia Barghouti, who will join via Zoom. All three have experienced detention firsthand and will share their personal accounts of resilience and resistance. The discussion is moderated by psychologist Ama Kissi.

Le réalisateur palestinien Raed Andoni a été incarcéré à 18 ans dans la tristement célèbre prison de Moscobiya à Jérusalem-Ouest, l’un des nombreux centres d’interrogatoire d’Israël, où au moins 750 000 hommes palestiniens ont été emprisonnés et torturés depuis 1967. Dans son documentaire Ghost Hunting (2017), il réunit un groupe éclectique d’anciens détenus prêts à affronter leur passé en reconstruisant les murs étouffants de leur ancienne prison.

Jour après jour, des ouvriers du bâtiment, un forgeron, un architecte et un assistant réalisateur donnent forme à leurs souvenirs – comment ils ont survécu, comment ils ont enduré, et comment, même dans les moments les plus sombres, l’humour et la résilience les ont maintenus humains. Au fur et à mesure que les murs de leurs cellules s’élèvent, leurs voix se font entendre, brisant le silence et la peur.

Après la projection, nous aurons une discussion avec Wadee Hanani, assistant réalisateur de Ghost Hunting, ainsi que le journaliste Lama Ghosheh et l’activiste Fadia Barghouti, qui nous rejoindront via Zoom.
